A flying duck race (Indonesian: Pacu Itiak) is a tradition in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra. Young female ducks (4–6 months old) that cannot fully fly are used. Races cover distances ranging from 600 meters to 2,000 meters. Races are held weekly. The races are held in different areas with rice fields and streets used as venues. The ducks are numbered on their bills. The races are accompanied with music and parade activities. The winning duck must fly the race course and across the finish line.
