Flighting the ball is a manoeuver in which a bowler in cricket deceives the batsman with subtle changes in the speed of delivery using almost identical bowling actions. This is almost always used by slow bowlers, as it requires the ball to be pushed forward or dropped short by looping the ball in the air. Wilfred Rhodes and Bishan Bedi were particularly fine exponents of this art. It is the origin of the expression 'deceived in flight'.
