The Fitzroy Channel forms the communication between the Otway Sound and the Skyring Sound by a winding course to the North West for 11 miles. Its south-eastern entrance is at 52°47′0″S 71°22′0″W. The channel is of easy navegation, but a strong tide runs, even during the neaps, at the rate of 5 or 6 kn.
The channel separates the Riesco Island from American continent.
