FIRST Magazine (Forum For Decision Makers), or FIRST is a multi-disciplinary international affairs organisation based in London. The company was founded in 1984 and aims to promote communications between leaders in industry, finance and government worldwide and to promote strategic dialogue. Rupert Goodman is the chairman and founder and in 2006 Lord Hurd of Westwell joined as chairman of the advisory council. Lord Woolf of Barnes succeeded Lord Dahrendorf as chairman of the Award Judging Panel in 2005. Lord Cormack FSA DL is consultant, public affairs. The company opened a Washington office in 2009. FIRST received The Queen's Award for Enterprise 2010 and 2013 in recognition of its success in international markets.

Operations

The company operates in international publishing, event and award organisation. As well as its flagship title FIRST the company publishes specialist titles including Global Energy, World Energy Insight and World Petroleum and a range of regional and country reports and books on current economic and political affairs, providing analysis of global issues and the thinking on business and political leaders. In 2011, FIRST published "Britain's Foreign Policy – A new approach in a networked world". In 2015 FIRST published 'Leadership Perspectives' and 'South to the Great Steppe'.

The company organises and manages a range of high level meetings and special events for governments and corporations including conferences and round table meetings. Attendees include chairman and chief executives of global companies, leading academics and government ministers.

In 2000 the FIRST Award for Responsible Capitalism was instituted to honour business leaders who have excelled both by achieving commercial success and demonstrating social responsibility. In 2009 the book Responsible Capitalism: Essays on Morality, Ethics and Business, edited by Lord Cormack and Rupert Goodman was published.

Award winners have included Lord Browne of Madingley, Marilyn Carlson Nelson, Sir Robert Wilson, Daniel Vasella, Morris Tabaksblat, Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Ratan Tata, Howard Schultz, Thomas Bata, Mo Ibrahim, Sir Sigmund Sternberg, Andrew Witty, Charlie Mayfield, Indra Nooyi and Sophi Tranchell, Paul Polman,Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen Michaël Bremans and Anthony Pile. In 2013 John Kay (economist) was awarded the Advocacy Award for Responsible Capitalism. In 2014 the award winners were; José Ignacio Sánchez Galán, Rahmi M. Koç CBE, Sir Richard Lambert and Kay Allen OBE. In 2015 the FIRST Award for Responsible Capitalism was presented by Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills. The award winners were; Ana Patricia Botín, Ivy Wroe, John Vincent and Henry Dimbleby, Co-Founders of Leon Restaurants, and Jochen Zeitz.
