Profiles

The First Congregational Church of Manistee, Michigan, United Church of Christ, was founded on July 20, 1862 with ten charter members. The Rev. George Thompson who had recently returned to Michigan following missionary work in Africa was persuaded to preach the first sermon and organize the new church. One of the first churches to be organized in the community, the congregation worshiped in the fire hall and eventually purchased the building for their own meeting space.
