Find and replace trailer with pictures

Find and Replace is a Big Finish Productions audiobook based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. In it, Katy Manning reprises her role as Jo Grant from the television series, and Iris Wildthyme from the Big Finish audio series.

Contents

The Companion Chronicles "talking books" are each narrated by one of the Doctor's companions and feature a second, guest-star voice along with music and sound effects.

Plot

In a department store lift at Christmas, Jo Grant meets a strange-looking alien named Huxley. He tells her about her past, back in the 1970s, working at MIAOW with a mysterious alien known as Iris Wildthyme. This isn't quite how Jo remembers things. So Iris Wildthyme herself takes them back in time to ask the Third Doctor.

Cast

  • Jo Grant / Iris Wildthyme - Katy Manning
  • Huxley - Alex Lowe
  • Reception

Reviewer Richard McGinlay praises Katy Manning's portrayals of Jo Grant and Iris Wildthyme, saying "it really does feel as though there are two actresses in the studio, rather than just one providing both voices." Doctor Who scholar Philip Sandifer writes that Find and Replace incorporates a critique of patriarchical elements of the character of the Third Doctor and of Doctor Who in general.

    Continuity

  • Huxley also followed Turlough in the Fifth Doctor story Ringpullworld.
  • Jo mentions The Devil Goblins from Neptune, which were aliens from Neptune in the BBC Past Doctor novel of the same name. This adventure was with Liz.
  • The packaging lists this as being just before The Green Death, but frequent mentions of the Doctor's exile must place it before The Three Doctors. The Master's escape means it must also be after The Sea Devils.
  • The Third Doctor tells 21st Century Jo that he will visit her when his freedom is restored. Jo meets the Eleventh Doctor in the Sarah Jane Adventures story Death of the Doctor.
  • A noveliser from Verbatim 6 is also featured in Margs' play 'Imaginary Boys' (Broadcast as part of BBC Radio 4s Afternoon Play strand on October 3, 2013). In this play, 17-year-old schoolboy David (James baxter) is followed by noveliser, Lawrence.
