Federal Polytechnic, Oko is a Nigerian polytechnic based in Oko, Anambra State. It was previously known as College of Arts, Science and Technology.

The Institution which is today known as Federal Polytechnic, Oko, was approved by the Anambra State Government in 1979 as a College of Arts and Science. In June, 1980, the Institution was upgraded to a College of Arts, Science and Technology. And in 1985, an Edict of the Anambra State Government formalized the status of the College as a Polytechnic and named it Anambra State Polytechnic, Oko.
The polytechnic is situated within Oko town in Orumba North Local Government of Anambra State. The kernel of what eventually became the polytechnic was the brainchild of the Oko Progressive Union (OPU) greatly catalyzed by the patronage, resourcefulness and result oriented leadership of its pioneer chairman, a former Executive Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex I. Ekwueme.
History
At inception in 1979 the institution was approved by the Anambra State Government as a College of Arts and Science designed to prepare candidates for the General Certificate in Education (GCE) examination at both the ordinary and advanced levels. On June 28, 1980, the institution was upgraded to College of Arts, Science and Technology, an elevation that made it more attractive to young school leavers who came in droves to seek the higher certificate which the college could then award. The college was formalized as the Anambra State Polytechnic, Oko through Edict No 12 of 1985, published as a supplement to the Anambra State of Nigeria Gazette No 24, Volume 10 of June 27 1984.
Finally, in 1993, the State Polytechnic was taken over by the Federal Government and was renamed Federal Polytechnic, Oko. The institution is strategically located and surrounded by several centers of industries, commerce and diverse local crafts such as Awka (well-known for blacksmith/iron works) Nnewi (Industry and Technological products) and Onitsha and Aba (reputed for Commerce and industries). It has three campuses.
(i) The main campus at Oko which occupies a total land area of 89 hectares.
(ii) Ufuma campus: This occupies a total land area of 52 hectres
(iii) Atani campus: This occupies a total land area of 40 hectres.

On assumption of office as Rector of the Polytechnic on the 5th day of March, 2010 amidst multifarious challenges bedeviling the institution, the professor Godwin Onu led administration inherited what could be described as a dilapidated institution in terms of discipline, infrastructure, staff and students’ welfare. However, within three (3) years of stewardship, the Polytechnic has taken very giant strides in terms of academic reinvention and programs development, capacity building, welfare, discipline, information and communication transformation, security, health care delivery, etc especially in the areas of the road construction building, landscaping and beautification, water supply projects and these projects run simultaneously at the three campuses of the institution.
Within the period under review we have been able to build an institution where students experience less stress and rigors in getting registered after admission, payment of various fees, getting accommodation, securing adequate attention of their supervisors, applying
for review of scripts in the event of doubts, graduating within given time frame, etc. We have built an institution equipped for competition in a globalized world, with complete information and communication technology facilities and access to knowledge base of the world;
with e-education management techniques and e-learning facilities. An institution with good, strong, firm and fair leadership equipped to tackle the challenges of discipline, cultism, capacity building, knowledge and wealth creation; transparency and re-orientation that have
to a large extent changed the mindset of parents / guardians to de-emphasizing University education in preference to technical, vocational and entrepreneurial education. Today, Federal Polytechnic Oko ranks very high amongst the most preferred institutions by candidates for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Little wonder the Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Distinguished Senator Uche Chukwumerije during a one-day official oversight function visit at the institution declared Federal Polytechnic, Oko, "the fastest growing institution in the country." The administration because of the level of discipline, courage, dedication,diligence and commitment exhibited by members of the Management Team and in a special manner, the Rector's humble drive and commitment to prudence in financial management reflected in usage of internally generated revenue, capital allocation, interventionist grants and out sourcing from philanthropists has been able to accomplish all the projects and programes chronicled in this document which is making us and the institution very proud.
