On the night between February 14 and 15, 1965, three prominent public officials in the Republic of the Congo; Lazare Matsocota (prosecutor of the Republic), Joseph Pouabou (president of the Supreme Court) and Massouémé Anselme (director of the Congolese Information Agency), were kidnapped. The bodies of two of them were later found, mutilated, by the Congo River.
