False Profits is a standup, improv, & sketch comedy troupe based out of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Along with CHiPs Improv, False Profits is one of two comedy troupes at UNC-Chapel Hill.

About

Founded in February 2013 by Kenan Bateman, Eric Clayton, Shayne Sevigny, and Kagan Griffen, False Profits is the only standup, improv and sketch comedy troupe at UNC-Chapel Hill.

False Profits performs 2-3 big shows per semester for hundreds of students and smaller events every semester when requested. These shows generally consist of 3-minute standup sets by each member and the rest of the show divided between improv and sketch. As a result of the troupe's rapid success, the University also funded the Profits to attend the College Improv Tournament.

The group is divided into two levels - The Profits and an incubator team called The Disciples. Auditions are held twice a year for The Disciples. After undergoing training for at least one semester in standup, improv, and sketch comedy, The Disciples audition at the end of each semester to advance to the Profits.

Profits generally experience comedic success outside of the troupe. Members have opened for Lewis Black, and the Profits frequently are company members of DSI Comedy Theater.

Alumni of False Profits have gone on to write NYC musicals and write for local comedy shows.
