Fakhoury or variant Fakhouri is an Arabic surname in the Middle Eastern countries of Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon. Its literal translation is pottery maker and Fakhouri is an Arabic name that was given to the family which adopted the craftsmanship of making pottery out of clay. The original word is fukhar which literally means clay. So if you made fukhar, you were called a Fakhouri.

The first Fakhouri ancestors lived in a small town in the mountains of Lebanon called Rashaya el-Fukharthen some of them went to deir l amar and some to saida .In Saida during the Ottoman reign they granted them the title of beyk where they became a very known and one of the most important families in saida and had a political power in the city,
