History

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering is one of the first three faculties of the Technical University of Varna. The faculty is the successor of the electrical department of the State University of St. Cyril Slavyanobulgarski. In the years 1947 to 1953, the department taught electrical, radio and television and electrical power engineering. The first lectures were given in the State University (now the Economics University of Varna). The building of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering was finished in 1965. In the following years the faculty had departments in electrics, energetics and other technology related subjects. By the end of the 1960s, facilities were set up to accommodate communications and radio technology. In the 1970s, new facilities were created to accommodate new technology, such as automation and calculation technology. By the 1980s the name of the faculty was changed to the "Faculty of electrics, automation and electronics". The name was changed back in the 1990s.

Department of Electrical Engineering and Technologies

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Technologies was founded in 1963 and started its first academic year in 1964. The first name of the department was "electrical machines and apparatus" (until of the mid-1990s). The laboratories were equipped thanks to the support of the engineers: Mr. Atanassov Krusty, Dr. Nikola Todorovski, nurse Nikola Ivanov, Prof. DSc Dimitar Dimitrov, Boyan Bangiev Eng, Ivan Kerchev, Dr. Stoyan Peltekov. Today, the Technical University is proud with the Electrical Engineering and Technologies Department, because more than 40 engineers who graduated in the department continue to work at the university. The hard work gave results, because many of the graduates now publish scientific articles, teaching materials, textbooks and have become assistants, assocoiate professors and professors. Three rectors of the Technical University of Varna came from the department; Prof. Petar Penchev, Prof. Doncho Donchev and Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, and two deans of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Maria Marinova, Assoc. Prof. Marinela Yordanova. Prof. Eng. Sava Kontrov is plugged in the golden book of inventors of Bulgaria.

Leaders of the Department in the years

The Electrical Power Engineering department was founded in April 1974 with the order of the rector, Lefter Lefterov. This department is singular, with its direction in East Bulgaria. The first teachers were senior teacher Ivan Kerchev, senior assistant Georgi Ushev, and assistant Stefan Barudov. As of 2015, 1200 engineers have finished their education in the department.

Department of Electric power supply and electrical equipment

The department of Electric power supply and electrical equipment was founded in 1971. The first leader of the department was Prof. Marinov.

Department of Theory of Electrical Engineering and Measurement

The department of Theory of Electrical Engineering and Measurement was founded in 1963.
