Characters

  • Kendra Sorenson:The granddaughter of Caretakers of Fablehaven. She has magical abilities that allow her to see in the dark, command fairies, glow like a light bulb, talk to many creatures such as fairies, imps, goblins, brownies and dragons, and see mythical creatures without having to use anything enchanting. In this book, she is called the Fairy Queen's mortal Handmaiden. Sometime through the summer she gets recruited by the Knights of the Dawn.
  • Seth Sorenson: Seth, whom earlier in the summer (Fablehaven 2), had pulled a nail out of a revenant's neck in a forbidden grove, thus healing all who were albino and catatonic (Warren, Tanu, and Coulter). Graulas the demon tells Seth that he is a Shadow Charmer. Seth now has the ability to shadow-walk, talk to many of the creatures his sister can, see invisible creatures and items, and hear the whispers of dark creatures. He is the first to discover the Plague afoot at Fablehaven, when he sees nipsies corrupting the Seventh and Sixth Kingdoms. Seth seems to be more mature in this book, but still has the mindset he had when he first came to Fablehaven.
  • Grandpa and Grandma: Grandpa and Grandma Sorenson are the current caretakers of Fablehaven. Through the middle of the story, both get contaminated by the Plague, when their plan to recover an artifact fails. After a few conversations with Vanessa, Grandpa has given Vanessa some trust. However, Grandma Sorenson feels very strict about this when Vanessa gets moved to a cell. Grandma is slightly rude to Vanessa during their talks.
  • Warren Burgess: Warren is currently a member of a society known as "The Knights of the Dawn". He remains faithful and handy to Kendra and the others as Kendra, Warren, Dougan, and Gavin travel to another preserve called Lost Mesa. Lost Mesa is located in the middle of Arizona. He is ordered by Grandpa Sorenson to keep Kendra from any dangers whilst at the preserve. He is the younger brother of Dale and related to Grandma and Grandpa Sorenson. And he was once albino.
  • Tanugoatoa: Tanu was introduced in the second book as an expert potions master. Like Coulter and Vanessa he was one of the three mentors who taught Kendra and Seth earlier in the summer. Along with Warren, Coulter, and Kendra he is also a Knight of the Dawn. His potions become very handy throughout the book and entire series, helping and aiding those who have been injured, or stopping members of the Society from reaching their destination.
  • Coulter Dixon: Coulter is a short man, with a small tuft of hair on his head. He is currently a member of the brotherhood, along with Kendra, Warren, and Tanu. He is considered an old-fashioned man, only taking Seth on certain excursions. He was turned into a shadow along with Warren, Dale, Grandpa Sorenson and Grandma Sorenson. He has a magical glove that can let him turn invisible as long as he stands still which proved vital to save the preserve. He was one of the teachers alongside Tanu and Vanessa who taught Kendra and Seth, earlier in the summer. His specialties include magical relics and items.
  • Vanessa Santoro: Now remaining inside the Quiet Box, she seems helpful for information, although Ruth does not trust her. She insists on helping with the Plague, but they all refuse. Eventually she gets moved to a cell in the fourth book, where she controls traitors within the Brotherhood and from then on is sort of considered a friend. Vanessa is a narcoblix in which she can control people and can track them in their sleep. She is also a former member of the Society of the Evening Star.
  • The Sphinx: The Sphinx is a wise creature that is centuries old. According to Vanessa, he is the leader of the Society of the Evening Star. His identity is revealed by the Lieutenants of the Knights of the Dawn. The Sphinx is often in hiding and is difficult to locate. He makes sure to keep his identity shrouded in mystery.
  • Gavin Rose: Gavin is a stuttering 16-year-old dragon tamer. He meets Kendra when the two are recruited to be Knights of the Dawn. Gavin seems to have an interest in Kendra. He is the son of the famous Charlie "Chuck" Rose, a leading dragon tamer and studier.
  • Lena: She is currently a naiad (a water nymph). Long ago she was drawn out of her pond by an old caretaker of Fablehaven, Patton Burgess. After his death she traveled the world and gained new skills and seemed to enjoy being mortal though she aged slower. After Kendra led the fairies in combat against the demon Bahumat (Fablehaven 1), she was carried off by the fairies and returned to the pond. After this when Patton comes back using the Chronometer she gets drawn from the pond. Lena dies in the end of Book 3 because she is the one who connects the pebble to the revenant's nail.
  • Patton: Patton Burgess, an ancestor of Grandma Sorenson, Warren Burgess, Kendra, and Seth, was a former caretaker of Fablehaven and lured Lena the naiad out of the pond. Patton lived a long life of nearly 100 years. He was also fairystruck with his aunt Ephira's help. By pressing a random button on the Chronometer, Seth brings Patton Burgess forward in time into the Old Manor. Patton proved necessary to saving the preserve. He was very concerned about the state of the opening of the great demon prison Zzyzx and traveled to each preserve to make each artifact even more difficult to find. Patton's personality is slightly like Seth: adventurous, loyal, well-intentioned, and curious.
  • Ephira: Ephira was Patton Burgess's aunt; she was a hamadryad but descended to mortality to live her life with Marshall Burgess. Marshall, however, found another wife and she was so desperate to become a hamadryad again that she consulted with Kurisock, an evil demon found in the swamp of Fablehaven. She killed Marshall as revenge for his infidelity and was the source behind the plague (as well as Gavin Rose A.K.A. Navarog). She was first seen in book 1 during the Summer Solstice.
