FOR Swimming

FOR Swimming - Friends of Rockbridge Swimming, Inc., is a non-profit organization formed in 2004 for the purpose of fostering charitable causes and providing support, educational opportunities, and benefits for youth, high school, and adult swim teams, as well as providing fitness training and aquatic therapy for all Rockbridge County citizens.

After two years of intensive fund raising, in June 2006, FOR Swimming broke ground on the construction of a 25-yard pool enclosed within an Asati fabric dome, located in Lexington, Virginia. Principal construction work was managed by Gunner Construction, and took approximately one year to complete.

The Asati dome is highly translucent and requires no lighting during daytime hours with an added thermaliner to reduce heating costs. A chair lift was installed to give the physically challenged easy access to the water. In addition, an adjacent pool house was built complete with locker rooms, showers, office, team room, pump room and storage for pool and swimming equipment. The project was funded by FOR Swimming’s “Raise the Roof Campaign” supported by donations from individuals, families, and businesses.

The community pool is actively used by swimmers of all ages and abilities. The nearby Maury River Middle School offers a swimming class to its students; the pool is home to the Rockbridge Storm swim team and Rockbridge County High School swim team; and, also serves the needs of local Masters Swimmers, Aquacize enthusiasts, family and lap swimming. In addition, FOR Swimming provides training in swimming, lifeguarding, and kayak rolling.

Use of the pool is available with a season membership or a daily pass.
