The National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (Spanish: Fondo Nacional de Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico), abbreviated FONDECYT, is the main public fund of the Government of Chile, from the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), to promote scientific research in all the areas of the knowledge.

It was established in 1984 and has since funded more than 13500 research project, which have included the participation of more than 12,000 researchers.

Grants and Fellowships

The program provides three types of grants and fellowships:

  • Regular contest: for established researchers.
  • Contest for the Initiation of Research: opened in 2006 for young and emergent researchers.
  • Postdoctoral Contest in Chile: for early career scientists to perform postdoctoral research in Chile.
