Evianne van Gijn (born 1988) Ph.D., is the former President of the University of Cambridge Graduate Union. As President she is a member of the Cambridge University Council. Evianne grew up in Curacao, Kingdom of the Netherlands. She obtained a bachelor's degree with honours (cum laude) in Psychology and Law from University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, the Netherlands. In 2010 Evianne graduated with an MPhil in Social and Developmental Psychology from the University of Cambridge and in 2015 she obtained a PhD in the Department of Psychology under Professor Michael Lamb. She received a grant from the Elisabeth Kinderfonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Her doctoral research focussed on sex offenders who operate online, and their process of 'grooming' or preparing children for offline sexual encounters. Evianne is a life member of Clare Hall, Cambridge.
Evianne has osteogenesis imperfecta. In 2007 Evianne was a finalist in a reality TV programme, the Dutch version of Miss Ability (TROS Mis(s) Verkiezing). She lobbied for disabled people’s rights and accessibility in the workplace as well as opportunities for disabled students to attend university. Evianne is currently active in the Care4BrittleBones Foundation whereby she aims to raise awareness for osteogenesis imperfecta and generate funds for medical research.
