Esteban Alegre (born-16th century) was a Criollo landowner and conquistador, was one of the neighbors founders of Buenos Aires.

Biography

Alegre was born in Asunción, he arrived with the delegation led by Juan de Garay, for the second foundation of Buenos Aires in 1580. The same year of the foundation, Alegre received 3000 varas of land located in border of Riachuelo, (La Matanza). In 1582, had received encomienda of the tribe Alacas (of Guaraní origen) commanded by the cacique Suguna.

Esteban was the son of Luis Alegre and his second wife Catalina de Lis, daughter of Dionis de Lys (conquistador born in Flanders).
