After a group of six Americans finds a way to escape the overrun embassy in Tehran, Iran, in 1979, they still find themselves in hostile territory. They are aided by Canadian diplomat Ken Taylor (Gordon Pinsent), who manages to hide their whereabouts from the Iranians. As time slowly passes, Taylor and immigration officer John Sheardown (Chris Wiggins) hatch a plan to help the Americans escape, involving fake Canadian passports for the Americans and a cover story about shooting a movie.
