Ernest Angell (June 1, 1889 – January 11, 1973) served as President of the American Civil Liberties Union for 19 years, from 1950 to 1969.

Angell was born in Cleveland in 1889. When he was 9 years old, his father was killed in the sinking of the SS La Bourgogne.

His first wife Katharine Sergeant Angell White was fiction editor of The New Yorker and their son Roger Angell is a writer. He died at his home in Manhattan at age 83, after suffering heart problems.
