Eoghan O'Connell (born 13 August 1995) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Walsall, on loan from Celtic. O'Connell has also previously played for Oldham Athletic and Cork City. He has also played for the Republic of Ireland national football team at Under 19 and Under 21 levels.

Celtic

O'Connell made his Scottish Premiership debut for Celtic against Ross County on 29 March 2014. He went on to make a further 2 appearances for Celtic in 2014 under new manager Ronny Deila.

In the summer of 2016, under new management led by Brendan Rodgers, O'Connell was given a fresh start with Celtic. He made several appearances for throughout the pre-season, and also scored his first goal for Celtic in an International Champions Cup match vs. EPL champions Leicester City. He also featured in Celtic's Champions League qualification campaign against Astana and Hapoel Beer Sheva.
Loan moves

O'Connell signed for Oldham Athletic on 1 September 2015, on a loan which expired on 1 January 2016. O'Connell made his Oldham debut against Bradford on 5 September and impressed playing as a right-back. After playing a further match, O'Connell picked up an injury in training and didn't play for Oldham again. He returned to Celtic in November.

In February 2016, O'Connell moved out on loan again, this time to his home-town club, League of Ireland side Cork City. He made his debut on 27 February, playing the whole match as Cork defeated Dundalk 2–0 in the President's Cup. He went on to play five times for Cork, scoring once in a 2–2 draw with Galway United, before being recalled to Celtic at the end of April 2016 following him sustaining a groin injury.
O'Connell was loaned to English League One club Walsall for the second half of the 2016/17 season.
International career
O'Connell made his Republic of Ireland under-19 debut against Norway in August 2013.
Personal life
O'Connell is the cousin of Irish rugby captain Paul O'Connell.
Along with O'Connell himself, both his father Damien O'Connell and brother Andy O'Connell have represented Cork City.
