El Samraa or Sumra was a speckled grey Arabian mare of the Shammar Bedouin from the Zawba Clan, born 1924 in the City As-Saqlawiyah who was named after her strain. The name of her sire, Hab El Rih, and dam, Bint El Sheik are not given names but Arabian phrases and mean that she was Asil, a purebred Arabian horse. Her sire was a Kuhaylan (Ajuz), her dam a Saqlawiyah (Jedraniyah). Her breeder was the Shammar Zawba Sheikh Omar Abd El Hafiz who sold the mare at Cairo in 1931 to Fuad I of Egypt for his private Inshass Stud. The name El Samraa/Sumra means soft, light tanned color.
