The first season of the reality show El Gran Show in Peru began on April 30, 2016.

For this annual edition, the "11" palette was reintroduced, last applied in 2013 show kings. Also, the VIP Jury returned, no longer being formed by the public, but by a person belonging to the artistic medium granting them or not To the couples one or two extra points, for this reason the scores in this years were on a scale of 46 points. In addition, the "Lifeguard" was once again integrated.

This season was also the first to introduce a new segment called "Partner Switch-Up", where each of the celebrities had to leave their original partner and dance with a new professional dancer for a week. This segment is very similar to the "Switch-Up" segment that occurred since the season 18 of Dancing with the Stars. Apart from that in this segment, the program presented for the first time in its entire history the "same-sex dance".

On July 23, 2016, Milett Figueroa and his professional dancer Patricio Quiñones were crowned champions, Fiorella Cayo and Jimy Garcia finished second, while Christian Dominguez and Isabel Acevedo finished third.

Couples

This season 12 celebrities were summoned. On April 28, Melissa Klug (who highlighted her popularity in the media for being the ex-wife of footballer Jefferson Farfán) was officially confirmed as the first heroine of this season through a television spot. The rest of the contestants were presented during the first week, on Saturday, April 30th, but the competition officially opened on May 7, featuring also the professional dancers who accompanied the celebrities. The four dancers who returned from past seasons were Diego Alza (from season 1 of 2010), Isabel Acevedo (season 1 of 2011), José Morello (season 1 of 2012) and Patricio Quiñones (season 2 of 2015), the rest of professional dancers are new to the program.

During the season two heroines, Melissa Klug and Dorita Orbegoso, asked the production to change dancer because they were not satisfied with their performance, being the first time in the history of the program that this happens. This is the first season since the Special edition, in having five finalist pairs instead of four.

Host and judges

Gisela Valcarcel and Jaime "Choca" Mandros returned as presenters, while Morella Petrozzi, Carlos Cacho and Pachi Valle Riestra returned as judges. Michelle Alexander (producer of America Television) became the new judge of the program. In addition the VIP jury was added in this season, with the difference that it would only consist of one person being the artist.

Lifeguard

From the third week when a couple is eliminated by the public through telephone voting, the jury decides whether the continuous competition.

  • The couples were paired in six sets, in each set the couples would perform a dance not learned with different songs, only one of the couples in each set would gain an extra point awarded by the VIP judge Carlos Carlín. Quebradita and Electronic tango are introduced.

    Due to labor reasons, Kike Suero could not dance with Cielo Lobos, therefore was replaced by Carlos Álvarez (celebrity of El Gran Show 2015 (season 1))

  • The couples performed an unlearned dance. Disco, Marinera, Pasodoble and Samba are introduced.

  • The couples danced a freestyle characterized the most famous artists in the world, dancing with their partners the most representative songs of such artists. Due to labor reasons, Christian Dominguez could not dance with Isabel Acevedo, therefore was replaced by Andrés Olano (celebrity of El Gran Show 2012 (season 1))

  • The couples were paired in five sets, in each set the couples would perform the same dance with different songs, only one of the couples in each set would gain an extra point awarded by the VIP judge Milena Zárate. Toada is introduced.

  • The couples (except those sentenced) performed a double dance of which consists of the continuous Sexy dance to the Merengue House, this double dance was realized in the rain. Bollywood, Burlesque and Rueda de Casino are introduced.

    Michelle Alexander could not be present this week, so Santi Lesmes (guest judge in week 4) replaced her, so there was no VIP judge.

    Week 7: Partner Switch-Up

  • The celebrities (except the celebrities in "The Duel") with a different professional partner ,selected by the production, as part of the "Partner Switch" for that week only. All celebrities returned to their original partners on Week 8. Except the celebrities Fiorella Cayo and Dorita Orbegoso, who exchanged with professional partner; Contemporary, Lambada, Mambo and Tex-Mex are introduced.

    Because last week was not possible to transmit the program for a match of the Copa America Centenario, the production decided that three couples were sentenced to eliminate two of them in the next week.

In addition, "El trencito" was performed in Sexy dance where only the celebrities participated dividing themselves in heroes and heroines, each group next to a invited celebrity. Flamenco and Hip-hop are introduced.

  • The couples performed an unlearned dance and an impromptu dance that included five different styles of dance, all rehearsed during the week by couples and only one chosen by a draw on the live show, which couples performed.

    Due to labor reasons, Luigi Carbajal could not be present at the gala, so his dance in the first round was recorded the day before the program so the jury can evaluate it. Then in the improvised dance round, Thiago Cunha danced in his place along with Thati Lira.

  • In the first part, the couples performed a Freestyle, the elimination in that round only occurred between the couples sentenced. In the second part, the four finalists Salsa dancing with another celebrity. In the third part, the three finalist couples performed a Ballroom dance not learned from famous movie songs.

    Guest judges

    From the beginning of this season, a guest judge (called VIP judge) was present at each week to comment and rate the dance routines. The form of qualification of the VIP judges was giving them or not one or two extra points to each of the couples. In week 6 there was no VIP judge due to the absence of one of the main judges.
