El Dahir (Somali: Ceel-Daahir) formerly known as El Dofar (Somali: Ceel Doofaar), is a town in the northeastern Bari region of Somalia.
Overview
The town was formerly a part of the briefly-extant Maakhir state, which was later officially incorporated into the autonomous Puntland region in January 2009.
The former name, El Dofar, literally translates as "Pig's borewell". Since Muslims view pigs as unclean animals, Maakhir's then authorities subsequently renamed the city to El-Dahir or "Pure borewell".
