Ekavedi is an Indian surname reflecting the mastery of a Brahmin over one of the four vedas (including the Vedic Branch he was born into). Aryan (Brahmin) name from Sanskrit Trivedi ‘one that knows one Vedas’, from eka = ‘one’ + veda ‘(sacred) knowledge’ leading to vedi = 'to see'. The Vedas are the oldest sacred texts of the ancient Aryan Hindu religion and the oldest religious texts known to mankind. Also see: dwivedi or dubey, trivedi or tewari and chaturvedi or chaubey.
