Easton is a city in Gregg and Rusk counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 510 at the 2010 census.

"Easton, Texas" is the title of the fourth episode of the CBS Western television series Trackdown, starring Robert Culp as Texas Ranger Hoby Gilman. The episode aired on October 25, 1957. In the story line, a railroad official is robbed, and his head clerk played by Dabbs Greer, is mortally wounded. Townspeople mistakenly consider the clerk a hero.

Easton is also briefly mentioned in the 1950s B movie The Giant Gila Monster.

Geography

Easton is located at 32°23′13″N 94°35′8″W (32.386874, -94.585589), mostly in Gregg County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.4 km²).None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 524 people, 178 households, and 139 families residing in the city. The population density was 210.4 people per square mile (81.3/km²). There were 191 housing units at an average density of 76.7/sq mi (29.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 22.90% White, 66.98% African American, 9.16% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 15.65% of the population.

There were 178 households out of which 41.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% were married couples living together, 14.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.39.

In the city, the population was spread out with 32.6% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $28,250, and the median income for a family was $29,545. Males had a median income of $30,865 versus $19,231 for females. The per capita income for the city was $10,178. About 15.4% of families and 19.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.8% of those under age 18 and 35.1% of those age 65 or over.

Education

The Gregg County portion of Easton is served by the Longview Independent School District, while the Rusk County portion is served by the Tatum Independent School District.
