The Eastern Province Herald is a newspaper, founded in 1845, and based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

The paper was founded by Scottish immigrant Jock Paterson on 7 May 1845. Paterson was still contracted by the state, making the move illegal, so the paper was in the name of his partner John Phillip, as the official owner. After the two men fought, Paterson stopped publication and later sold the newspaper in 1857 to his friend Robert Godlonton who owned the Grahamstown Journal. Philip opened the competing Port Elizabeth Mercury newspaper.

In the mid-1870s the Cape Colony underwent a massive economic and social growth, and the paper finally became a daily paper in 1878, as well as a full printing company.
