East Timorese presidential election, 2017

Presidential elections will be held in East Timor in 2017, with the first round on 20 March and a possible second round on 20 April if required.

Electoral System

The President of East Timor is elected using the two-round system.

Candidates

  • José António de Jesus das Neves (otherwise known as José Samala Rua): Independent. He is a former guerilla leader and was deputy commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (Comissão Anti-Corrupção (CAC)) until July 2016.
  • José Luís Guterres: Frenti-Mudança
  • Amorim Vieira: Independent
  • Luís A. Tilman: Independent
  • Francisco Guterres: Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (FRETILIN)
  • António da Conceição: Democratic Party
  • Antonio Maher Lopes: Socialist Party of Timor
  • Angela Freitas: Labour Party
