Koynanagar is a town near the Koyna Hydroelectric Project in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The area is one of the most seismically active in Maharashtra as well as the country. Koyna region lies in Zone IV of earthquake hazard zoning. Below is a list of earthquakes having epicenter in or near the Koynanagar region.

1967

On 13 September 1967, a strong 6.0 earthquake was felt throughout Maharashtra, with epicenter near Koyna. Within minutes, it was followed by an aftershock registering 5.5 on the Richter Scale.

The great 1967 Koynanagar earthquake was the strongest in this region. Koynanagar was flattened completely by this 6.5 earthquake. The earthquake claimed at least 180 human lives and injured over 1500 people. The earthquake had caused a 10–15 cm fissure in the ground which spread over a length of 25 km. Some geologists believe that the earthquake was due to reservoir triggered seismic activity by the Koyna Dam.
