History

Eagle Creek was founded in 1975 by Steve and Nona Barker in the San Jacinto Mountains of California, where they ran a retail store called Mountain People selling custom mountain packs. Production began in a 1,500 square feet (140 m2) manufacturing facility in Solana Beach, California.

After beginning negotiations in late 2006, Eagle Creek was acquired by VF Outdoor, Inc., a subsidiary of clothing company VF Corporation, in January 2007.

Products

Eagle Creek was the first company in the market to market the "adventure travel gear" category and the first to offer travel backpacks. It also claims to be the first to utilize double needle seam stitching and a built-in organization panel in a backpack.

    Eagle Creek has won various awards for its products. Its Morphus travel bag was named Best Roller Bag in Men's Journal and chosen as a ORWM 13 Show Editor's Pick. Furthermore, its ORV Trunk was the 2014 Outside magazine travel award winner. and was named Gear of the Year in 2008. The 2-in-1 Ultra-Lights were awarded National Geographic's Gear of the Year in 2014.
