Durga Das Basu was an eminent Indian jurist and a lawyer. He had been the author of the Commentary on the Constitution of India and Casebook on the Indian Constitutional Law. He had been a recipient of the civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan.
He has been awarded honorary doctorates by more than six universities in India along with a doctorate of law from the University of Calcutta.Durga Das Basu was a Judge Of calcutta High Court.
His book on the Constitution of India, first published more than twenty years ago, is used as one of the most important textbooks in social sciences and legal studies related to the Constitution of India.
