In mammalian brain anatomy, the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex is a section of the prefrontal cortex (PFC). It is involved in creating a sense of the self. This sense of self that the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex is involved in is what Claparede referred to as "me-ness". It is also involved in what is called "Theory of mind", or considering the mental states of others. Brain activity in the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex has been shown to be significant in altruism. This region has been shown to be unusually inactive in people exhibiting psychological dissociation.
