The church is part of the Dolstad parish in the Indre Helgeland deanery in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The red, octagonal building was constructed in 1735 by the architect Nils Pedersen Bech. The church was consecrated by 7 August 1735 by the local dean Anders Dass, the son of poet and priest Petter Dass. This is the third church to be built on this site since the 12th century.
