Diriangen

Diriangen was the tribal leader of the Chorotegas who can rightfully be called the first resistance fighter of the Nicaragua. He fought against the Spanish in the 1520s, keeping them at bay for a time. Part of his legacy can be seen in the words from the famous folk song Nicaragua, Nicaraguita where the words are as follows:

Ay Nicaragua, Nicaragüita, la flor más linda de mi querer, abonada con la bendita, Nicaragüita, sangre de Diriangen. Oh Nicaragua, the most beautiful flower of my love, Fertilized with the blessed blood of Diriangen.
