Dipterocarpus pachyphyllus grows as a tree up to 45 metres (150 ft) tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 1.2 metres (3 ft 11 in). Bark is chocolate-brown. The fruits are roundish, up to 2.5 cm (1 in) long. The specific epithet pachyphyllus is from the Greek meaning "thick leaves". Habitat is mixed dipterocarp forest from sea-level to 400 metres (1,300 ft) altitude. D. pachyphyllus is endemic to Borneo.
