Dimetindene (trade name Fenistil; other name dimethindene maleate) is an antiallergic drug. Dimetindene is an antihistamine/anticholinergic that is a selective H1 antagonist. As dimetindene only minimally passes across the blood-brain barrier, it is classified as a second generation antihistamine.

Clinical use

Dimetindene is used orally and topically as an antipruritic. It is used topically to treat skin irritations, such as insect bites. Dimentidene is also administered orally to treat allergies, such as hay fever. Unlike first generation antihistamines, it causes only minimal drowsiness.
