Digital fuel injection refers to a fuel injection system that uses a digital signal from an onboard electronic control unit (ECU) to admit fuel into a carburetor style intake. While similar to that of throttle body injection, the system uses no sensors to help regulate the fuel flow. Instead, it uses a signal from the ECU previously programmed by the tuner.

Digital systems work to keep complexity to a minimum. Without the need for sensors, the engine bay is kept free of wires, and the engine of extra sensors that may cause malfunctions.
