Derby City Council, has 51 councillors who represent the city's 17 electoral wards. There are three councillors for each electoral ward. Elections are held three out of every four years: one councillor from each ward goes through an election process over the three years.

By-Elections between May 2010 - May 2014

By-elections are called when a representative Councillor resigns or dies, so are unpredictable. A by-election is held to fill a political office that has become vacant between the scheduled elections.
