Derawal Nagar (Punjabi, Urdu: ڈیریوال نگر, Hindi: डेरावाल नगर) is a colony in Delhi, India in which people of the Derawal ethnic group reside. Originally native to the Derajat region (the cities of Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan in Pakistan. These individuals, who are mostly Hindu, established the colony after the partition of India in 1947. There are a number of Derewals living in Vijay Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Mukherjee Nagar and Gurgaon It's just a small colony comprising two blocks A and B. It has a famous gurudwara of Shah Ji in A block. The language spoken by the original inhabitants of this area is Derawali, which is a dialect of the Saraiki dialect. Most Derawalis belong to Middle/Upper class and most of them are in the service sector, a few of them now are trying their hand at business. Many of these Derawalis in Delhi have opened their dry fruit shops in Chandni Chowk. But there are Derawalis who are accomplished businessmen in areas of Surat, with the surname Bhatia. Bhatia Chemicals in Surat is a very well known & prominent large business. Bhatias in Surat and Ahemadabad also started Textile Factories such as Mohanlal And Sons Dyeing & Printing Mills in G.I.D.C. Pandesara, Surat, Gujarat. Sota, Nangia, Bangia, Malik, Gera are some prominent surnames in the area.
