Dawadi or Dawady is a family belonging to Brahmin race of the Indo-Aryan group. Dawadi live primarily in Nepal, which is considered their place of origin. They are of "Bashistha" gotriya. Presently there are around six thousand families living in different parts of the country. Although majority of the families are settled in Gorkha District, Dawadi are found in Chitwan, Kathmandu, Lamjung and Syangja. Some Dawadis are also found in the eastern part of Nepal in Bhojpur as well as the western part of Nepal, Kanchanpur.

Most of the Dawadi family inside Kathmandu Valley are settled in Balaju, Samakhusi, Mulpani, Mahankal, Chabahel, Sinamangal, Purano Naikap,Patan, Syuchatar and Vanasthali, Lagankhel, Kushunti at the western sector of the valley.
