Dr. David Banney (born 1968, Brisbane) is an Australian conductor, surgeon and music educator.

Banney resides in Newcastle where he is the conductor of the European Medical Students Orchestra (EMSO), Newcastle Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, artistic director of Hunter Sinfonia and director of Hunter Strings, a youth string orchestra. English conductor, Vernon Hanley, rated Banney as "...easily among the best half-dozen young conductors that I have encountered in the forty years of my career..." Banney won the 1995 ABC-Westfield Australian Young Conductor of the Year Award, and the ABC Young Composers Competition. He has conducted the EMSO since 1999 and the three Newcastle orchestras since taking up his position at the Conservatorium of Newcastle in 2001. In addition to his conducting, viola and violin careers, Dr. Banney is also a skin cancer surgeon.

David Banney also conducted Sydney Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006 for a period of 6 months. He tutors violin in Newcastle.
