David Balding is an Australian statistician and Professor in Statistical Genetics at University College London. Until October 2009 he was a Professor in Statistical Genetics Imperial College London, where he still retains an affiliation as Visiting Professor. He was educated at the University of Newcastle, Australia and the University of Oxford, and is an editor of the Handbook of Statistical Genetics.

Balding's research interests lie in the application of mathematics and statistics to problems in genetics, in particular he is interested in statistical inference for medical and forensic purposes.

He has written a book Weight-of-Evidence for Forensic DNA Profiles.
