Dave strickland

Dave Strickland (4 December 1877 – 31 December 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

Working at Menzies in the goldfields of Western Australia, he was also an amateur sprinter. While he performed at a level that would have allowed him to compete in the 1900 Summer Olympics, he was unable to attend as he lacked the money for a trip to Paris. In 1900, he entered the Stawell Gift 130-yard (120-m) foot-race, winning in 12 seconds off a handicap of 10 yards.

His daughter, Shirley Strickland, represented Australia at 3 Olympic Games, winning 7 medals including 3 gold.
