Danske Bankas is a brand name of Danske Bank A/S Lithuania Branch. It is a part of Danske Bank Group - one of the largest financial service groups in Northern Europe and the Baltic States. Danske Bank Group in Lithuania works as Danske Bankas, UAB Danske Capital Investicijų Valdymas and UAB Danske Lizingas. Danske Bankas offers all types of banking services, including investment service, debts, savings etc. for both private and business customers. Danske Bankas currently is 5th largest bank in Lithuanian banking industry.

Until 2008, Danske Bankas in Lithuania was known as SAMPO Bankas and belonged to Finnish financial service group SAMPO Plc which was bought by Danske Bank Group in November 2006. Danske Bank Group bought SAMPO Plc for 4,05 billion euro. The profit SAMPO Plc gained after this transaction was 2,9 billion euro. In 2007 Danske Bank Group started to run retail banks in Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia. In Lithuania, SAMPO Bankas was renamed to Danske Bankas in June 2008 and to Danske Bank in November 2012.

History

  • 1994 December 14: The Lithuanian Development Bank was established.
  • 2000 September 15: The Lithuanian Development Bank received a commercial bank licence.
  • 2000 December 28: The Finnish financial service group SAMPO Plc acquired and began to manage the Lithuanian Development Bank.
  • 2001 The name of the Lithuanian Development Bank was changed to SAMPO Bankas. A new Board of the bank was formed.
  • 2004 December: The legal status of SAMPO Bankas was changed from closed joint stock company (in Lithuanian—UAB) to joint stock company (in Lithuanian—AB).
  • 2006 November: the Danish banking group Danske Bank A/S signed an agreement with the Finnish financial service group SAMPO Plc to acquire the Sampo Bank Group together with the Lithuanian (as well as Finnish, Latvian, and Estonian) SAMPO banks. The transaction was completed on 1 February 2007, and since July of the same year Danske Bank has had direct control of 100 percent of the shares of SAMPO Bankas. Danske Bank is now the largest financial service group in Northern Europe and the Baltic States.
  • 2008 June 1: SAMPO bankas changed its name to „Danske Bankas“, together with the new visual identity.
  • 2012 November 15: Danske Bankas changed its name to „Danske Bank“ in order to operate under the same name as the rest of the Danske Bank group.
