The twelfth season of Dancing with the Stars premiered on April 15, 2012, at the 6:30pm time slot on Channel Seven. With previous co-host Sonia Kruger defecting to Channel Nine, former Spice Girl and American Dancing with the Stars season 5 runner up Mel B was hired as her replacement. Daniel MacPherson continues his role as main host of the show, along with judges Todd McKenney, Helen Richey, and Joshua Horner.

Background

The cast for the season were revealed on 13 March 2012 via the Seven website, along with their professional partners, although four contestants were revealed in late February 2012. This cast has been seen as a star increase on the previous year's cast, particularly with the addition of new international co-host Mel B, and former Nine daytime talkshow host Kerri-Anne Kennerley. Six new professional dancers, including former American Dancing with the Stars professional Damian Whitewood, Christopher Page, Elena Samodanova, Jess Prince, Gleb Savchenko and Damien Samuel have been recruited to replace non-returning professional dancers Alana Patience, Brendon Midson, Arsen Kishishian, Masha Belash, Jade Brand and Mark Hodge.

Notes:Zoe topped the board with her graceful Viennese waltz which scored 27/30. Right down at bottom of the leaderboard was Vogue & Christopher with 14/30 for their cha-cha-cha.

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Notes: Kerri-Anne & Carmello topped the leader board with 27/30 for their marvelous foxtrot. Jessica & Damien were at the bottom with a terrible 8/30 for their jive. Then Bottom two were Vogue & Christopher and Erin & Gleb. Erin was eliminated with the least number of votes .

    Week 3: Personal Song/Story Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Danielle & Damian topped the leader board for their first time with their highest score yet of 27/30 for their spicy samba. Shannon & Elena were on the bottom of the leader board with 15/30 for their foxtrot. Vogue & Chris were in the bottom two for the second week in a row and Caine & Jess experienced their first time. Caine & Jess were removed from the competition with the lowest votes by the public. Vogue & Chris were saved again from the bottom two also.

    Week 4: Australian Music Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Zoe & Aric's Cha Cha impressed putting them top of the leader board tying with singer Johnny Ruffo & his partner Luda they tied with the same score of 27/30. Leaving Vogue & Chris at the bottom with 16/30 for their flat paso doble. Vogue & Chris were in the bottom two again for every week so far and Brian & Melanie experienced their first time in the bottom two. But Vogue & Chris's luck finally ran out as they were finally eliminated.

    Week 5: Broadway Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Zoe & Aric tied for the second week in a row in first place for their paso doble with singer songwriter Danielle & Damian for their tango with the same score of 28/30 they were equal first. Brian Mannix scored the lowest with 16/30 for his rumba. There was no elimination as Shannon Noll had dropped out after an injury on his back. Melanie & Daniel explained that if there were to be an elimination Brian & Melanie would have been the couple leaving the show.

    Week 6: Movies/Musicals Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Danielle wowed everyone with her cha-cha-cha that got her the first perfect 30 of the season. Brendan and Jess were bottom the first round with 14/30 for their Rumba. But then Johnny Ruffo won the marathon bonus points but Brendan beat Jessica Watson so she went down to the bottom instead with 19/40 and Danielle was top of the leaderboard with 38/40 (includes bonus points). Kerri-Anne and Jessica Watson were in the bottom two and sadly Kerri-Anne was eliminated leaving Jessica still in the game.

    Week 7: Team Dances Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Zoe Cramond and Aric Yegudkin wowed everyone with their fantastic quickstep. The judges said it was one of the best on dancing with the stars it gave her a perfect 30 which placed her in first place. Jessica Watson's Samba was not impressive and scored just 13/30 which placed her at the bottom of the leaderboard. Then the team dances kicked of the boys won with 28/30 and the girls received 27/30. Zoe Cramond kept the top spot with 57/60. Jessica stayed down at the bottom with just 40/60. Jess was in the bottom two along with footy legend Brendan Fevola but Jessica's luck ran out as she exited the competition.

    Week 8: Instant Dances Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Zoe Cramond fired up the floor again with 29/30 for her passionate Tango which again gave her top spots. Brian Mannix fell short of the board with his quickstep with just 19/30 which placed him down the bottom. Then round two kicked of Danielle Spencer impressed with her rumba which gave her 28/30 which was the highest score of round 2. Again Brian tumbled with just 13/30 as he struggled to shake in the samba. In the end Danielle & Zoe tied with 56/60 each. Despite Danielle's incredible dancing she was found in the bottom two with Brian Mannix but Danielle only just managed to stay on board when Brian was eliminated

    Week 9: Semi-Finals Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. Danielle Spencer's impressive Argentine Tango got her 27 points which was the top score for round one. Unfortunately Brendan's Salsa scored an average 15/30 the lowest score of round one. Round 2 began and Zoe Cramond stole the show with her perfect rhumba which score a pleasing 30 and Johnny failed to succeed in his Argentine Tango with 22 points. Zoe Cramond and Danielle Spencer's received top of the leader board with 56/60 but Brendan failed to impress with 42/60 it put him in last place. Despite Danielle's fab dancing she was sent into the bottom two with Brendan Fevola. Danielle narrowly escaped into the final leaving Brendan eliminated and out of the competition.

    Week 10: Grand Finale Week

    Individual judges scores in the chart below (given in parentheses) are listed in this order from left to right: Todd, Helen, Joshua. The grand finale kicked of in spectacular style as all 3 finalists danced a dance the judges thought they could improve on. Johnny fired up the dance floor receiving the highest score of 29/30 for his cheeky foxtrot. Zoe's jive wasn't as impressive receiving the lowest score of 23/30. Then the sudden death cha-cha-cha round kicked of. Danielle and Zoe received the top scores of 27/30. Johnny fell a point short on 26/30. When combined with previous round one score's Zoe was on the bottom with 50/60 and Danielle and Johnny were tied with 55/60. Zoe was then eliminated after that round. She performed her freestyle but it wasn't scored. Danielle and Johnny then went head to head in the freestyle round. Danielle received the lowest score of 29/30 and Johnny received his first perfect 30/30. Johnny received 85/90 as a grand total for the night Danielle received one point less with 84/90. Then the winner was crowned and Johnny won the coveted mirror ball and the title of the dancing with the stars 2012 champion.
