The cubic mean x ¯ c u b i c of n real numbers x i ∈ R is defined as:

x ¯ c u b i c = 1 n ∑ i = 1 n x i 3 3 = x 1 3 + x 2 3 + ⋯ + x n 3 n 3 .    

It is used for predicting the life expectancy of machine parts.

It can be understood as the generalized mean with p = 3 .
