Cristóvão Soares de Melo, older spelling Cristóvão Soares de Mello (died 1584) was a Portuguese colonial administrator.

Biography

He was the grandson of Estévão Soares de Melo, a viator (veador) of Alfonso V of Portugal (Manuel José da Costa Felgueiras Gaio, Nobiliário das Famílias de Portugal, tt.° Barbas § 1 N 9)

Soares de Melo was the 18th corregidor of Cape Verde between 1577 and 1579, he succeeded António Velho Tinho and succeeded by Diogo Dias Magro.

Between 1578 and 1579, the first English corsairs attacked Ribeira Grande on Santiago Island.

He married Violante Fernandes Coutinho.
