According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 146.6 square miles (379.7 km²), of which, 146.5 square miles (379.5 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.06%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 826 people, 299 households, and 246 families residing in the town. The population density was 5.6 people per square mile (2.2/km²). There were 392 housing units at an average density of 2.7 per square mile (1.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.15% White, 0.12% Native American, 0.24% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.36% of the population.
There were 299 households out of which 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.6% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.4% were non-families. 13.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.04.
