The Consulate-General of India in Houston is a diplomatic mission of India in Houston. It serves Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
The consulate opened in October 1995. The Consulate was previously located in Suite 600 of 3 Post Oak Central in the Uptown District. The space, which was the consulate's first location, had 11,353 square feet (1,054.7 m2) of space. In 2011 the consulate announced that it planned to outsource visa services. As of January 2011 it provided over 700 consular services to its service area, then Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas, every day. The Times of India said that the mission was "considered one of the top ten missions in the world". On August 30, 2011, the consulate moved into a new standalone facility at 4300 Scotland. The Government of India had purchased the 24,829-square-foot (2,306.7 m2) property, which had a built-up area that had 18,500 square feet (1,720 m2) of space. The Consulate-General of India, Atlanta announced that it planned to begin its services on October 1, 2012. This changed the service area of the Houston consulate.
