A compilospecies is a genetically aggressive species that incorporates the heredities of a closely related species and may even completely subsume that species, rendering it extinct. The concept is based on Bothriochloa intermedia, which is directly or indirectly related to the cytogenetic structure of the genera Bothriochloa–Dichanthium–Capillipedium, an apomictic complex. These are all grasses in the tribe Andropogoneae. In this complex, sexual and asexual reproduction are independent and active. Habitats are contiguous, so gene flow is active between species and even genera.
