Comedy Dynamics (a Nacelle company) is a multi-platform production and distribution company in Burbank, California formed in 2008 by Brian Volk-Weiss to distribute stand-up comedy specials produced by New Wave Entertainment.
It is the largest independent producer and distributor of stand-up comedy specials in the United States. The company produced the popular new series on History, Join or Die with Craig Ferguson, MTV2’s Wild ‘N On Tour, Coming To The Stage, and has worked with a wide range of established and emerging comedic talent including Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Aziz Ansari, Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, and Katt Williams.
New Wave Dynamics became Comedy Dynamics in July 2014 and is now available on Hulu, Roku, iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, and more. It delivered its first simultaneous multi-platform original release on February 20, 2015 (the feature film mockumentary Adventures in Comedy.)
In 2016, Dynamics had three Grammy nominees, with their Louis C.K. Live At Madison Square Garden winning the Grammy for Best Comedy Album.
In early 2015, Comedy Dynamics secured the rights to re-release the back catalogue of comedian Bill Hicks. Fathom Events and Comedy Dynamics teamed up to debut a special Bill Hicks event in select theaters on April 27, 2015, including Hicks’ Relentless special and a montage of unseen clips from previous standup routines narrated by his brother, Steve Hicks, as well as home videos from the Hicks family estate.
Comedy Dynamics' first-ever original series, Coming To The Stage, launched on May 6, 2015. Comedian Dan Levy hosted the six-episode series presenting up-and-coming comedians including Ian Abramson, Benji Aflalo, Dave Anthony, Jen D’Angelo, James Davis, Matt McCarthy, Rob O’Reilly, Jesse Popp, Joe Sib, Sara Schaefer, Rell Battle, and Allen Strickland Williams. Season two premiered late summer 2015. Season 3 began shooting in January of 2016 and will premiere in May of the same year. The series has been renewed for two more seasons and will begin shooting mid 2016.
On September 11, 2015, Comedy Dynamics released Bill Hicks - The Complete Collection, containing every commercially released special and album, more than ten hours of unreleased performances, and a photo book of rare and never-before-seen photos.
In late 2015, Dynamics gained exclusive rights to the Sam Kinison Collection of broadcast specials, home-movies, the Grammy award-winning album and rarely seen footage for broadcast, video, and digital platforms. The company plans to release a Kinison box set in 2016.
The company started shooting its comedy specials in Virtual Reality in 2016.
2016 marked a big push into scripted and unscripted Television production, with over 5 series in production by the end of the year and twice as many pilots.
In 2017, New Wave Entertainment spun off Comedy Dynamics into a stand-alone entity called the Nacelle Company. Brian Volk–Weiss, founder and CEO of Comedy Dynamics, is the CEO of Nacelle.
