The Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) is the principal department of the Colorado state government responsible for supporting statewide law enforcement, including assistance for county sheriffs who enforce state laws within counties and local police departments who enforce state and local laws within cities. Governor John Hickenlooper appointed former Mesa County (CO) Sheriff Stan Hilkey as Executive Director effective June, 2014.
